The amount of control the employer has over the worker determines whether or not the worker is an employee or an independent contractor. If the employer has the right to control what must be done and how it must be done, and supplies the tools to complete the work, then the worker is an employee. If the worker controls how the work is to be done, the worker is self-employed. Self-employed workers usually provide their own tools and have independent businesses serving multiple clients. You can pay your 1099 contractors the following:  

• Payment amounts that are reported in box 7 (non-employee compensation). (You should not use our service to pay other income types, such as rents, medical and health care payments, proceeds paid to attorneys, or other payments not reported in box 7.)

• Reimbursement amounts that are not reported on the 1099-MISC form.

Our 1099 filing service is offered for a flat fee customized to your business needs.

• Copy A is what we transmit electronically to the IRS.
• Copy B is for the recipient's records and informs the recipient of the amount you are reporting to the IRS. When required, the recipient files Copy 2 with the state income tax return.
• Copy C is for your records and Copy 1 is filed with your state when required. (Not all states require you to submit this copy when Copy A is filed electronically with the IRS.)
